JUST FOR TODAY I WILL NOT ANGER
This was the toughest precept for me for a long while...
I recall several of my students feeling the same way.
How does anger sit with you today, right now?
Whether you engage in daily exploration with the precepts or it's been a good while, there is always a new way to experience them.
I LOVE the reflection this particular precept invites for me every single time I read it or offer it as my daily prayer.
When it feels sticky I ask my heart ⇩
Am I angry?
Have I been angry?
Is this anger fresh or festering?
Can I feel it in my body?
Â
When I can really connect with anger I then offer this to myself:
I close my eyes and look into my heart.
In invite Reiki to flow alongside my attention with intention.
I call my anger forward, I look at this emotion, this unappealing part of mySelf and I welcome it into my heart.
Then, after setting it down in my heartspace, I step back and open my heart to see as many different perspectives as I can about the root of this bold emotion.
Â
Can I forgive myself for feeling or acting this way?
Can I forgive the origin(s) of my emotion?
Can I love myself when I'm angry?
Can I love the other person/people/circumstance even if they are 'causing' me to be angry?
Am I angry now?
Can I feel this in my body?
Â
I may complete a few rounds of this until I feel neutral about the roots of the anger [spoiler alert it's going to come from within - not from outside of yourself]
I was listening to Ram Dass recently and as eloquent as ever, while discussing anger, he bluntly shared ⇩
Â
"If YOU make me angry, It's MY problem."
Â
I loved this of course... Often a bitter pill to swallow and certainly against our societal norms - but juicy as heck none the less. There definitely was a time in life where reading THAT would have really rubbed me the wrong way... and guess what Ram Dass would have said?
I invite you to explore how anger is showing up for you these days. With the multitude of changing tides we're navigating in this day and age it seems a good time to connect with this powerhouse emotion.

What are reiki precepts?
The Reiki Precepts are offered as pillars of contemplation and as a pathway to invite reiki energy to anchor into the heart of the practitioner. They are sayings, mantras or ideals that have innumerable uses, much like the verses of the Tao Te Ching or Yoga Sutras. They are one of the main elements of the reiki system.
